The Wonderful Woman Of Oz
We Launched! TWICE!
In the Fall of 2019, after 18 months of development and rehearsals, "The Wonderful Woman of OZ", had its first preview performance in Los Angeles. The project stars Fake Radio cast member Erin Fitzgerald who co-wrote the script with me, based on her original idea: to re-imagine L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of OZ” as a one-woman show.
I thought the idea sounded impossible, so - of course - I had to find out if it was. That meant - of course - helping her write, direct, and produce the show. I’m so glad I did: it’s easily the most mind-bending piece of theater that I’ve ever seen, bar none. Erin’s vocal skills are hard to believe as she, somehow, faithfully recreates 28 different characters and voices from this memorable story.
The reviews were so PHENOMENAL in Los Angeles that we brought our show to Portland in March, 2020. There, we had another sold-out show and another standing ovation. We were ready to take the world by storm.
Then, the pandemic hit and world shut down.
So… we went back to our virtual drawing board and continued to rehearse, refine, and improve. When the lockdowns began lifting in 2022, we began performing again. We’ve now performed a hand full of times in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon and are now ready to take our show on the (literal) road.
Featuring no sets, no props, no costumes, and no special effects, Erin’s audiences will experience a staged version of this American classic in its most personal and accessible form: with one incredibly-talented actor portraying every single character in L. Frank Baum's beloved story.
Now over five years in the making, this loving parody adapts Baum's most famous novel into a two-act theatrical experience, blending elements from his original novels, the Lux Radio Theater broadcast, choice moments from MGM's movie... and a few, unexpected sources. The result is a surprising and delightful experience that invites the audience to help create the virtual sets and costumes in their minds' eyes.
